Microsoft Access on Mac

Table of Content

Introduction

Microsoft Access is not available as a native application for macOS. However, Kean University provides access to Microsoft Access for Mac users through Apporto, a virtual Windows environment that includes Access with no local installation required.

If you are using a Windows computer, Microsoft Access is included as part of the Microsoft Office suite installer. A Mac version of Microsoft Access has not been developed by Microsoft. However, students needing Access for a class may use the Apporto website to virtually use a Windows computer with Access installed. There is no installation necessary.

Using Microsoft Access on a Mac via Apporto

  1. Go to https://kean.apporto.com/
  2. Log in with your Kean credential.
  3. Locate the card with the Windows icon under the "App Store" heading and click "Launch"
  4. A new window will open with a virtual Windows computer screen inside. You may use it the same way you would use any Windows computer in person.

Saving Your Work

To move files between your Mac and the Apporto virtual computer:

  1. Uploading Files to Apporto
    • Use the Upload button in the cloud toolbar at the top of the Apporto window to send files from your computer to the virtual environment.
  2. Downloading Files from Apporto
    • Use the Download button to transfer files from the virtual computer back to your Mac.
    • By default, Apporto shows files saved to the Desktop.
    • Use the folder path to browse to other locations if needed.
  3. Backing Up Your Work
    • You may create a snapshot of the virtual computer environment to restore later.
    • However, manual backups are strongly recommended to ensure your work is not lost.
