Connect to a Network Share on a Mac (OSX)

Connect to a Network Share on a Mac (OSX version 10.14+)

The instructions assume that your machine is connected to the University network:

  • On-campus using the KUAIR-FACSTAFF wireless network or connected via a wired ethernet connection
  • Off-campus using Pulse Secure VPN (virtual private network)

1. Open Finder.

2. In the Finder menu, click "Go" on the Menu Bar, and then select "Connect to Server" from the drop-down menu (You can also use the shortcut Command + K to open the Connect To Server dialog box).

3. In the Connect to Server dialog box, enter the path of the network drive starting with smb://. An example of a department network drive is shown below.

  • If you do not know the path of the network drive to which you would like to connect, please contact the OCIS Help Desk for assistance.

4. Click on + next to the Server Address field to add the network share to your list of favorite servers. This stores the network drive location to allow for easy access without having to enter the path again.

5. Click the Connect button. You will be prompted to enter your username and password for authentication. Enter your Kean username (without @kean.edu) and password and click Connect.

6. A new Finder window will open, displaying the contents of the network share.

7. To disconnect from the network share, save and close any documents that were opened from the network drive, then close the Finder window or right-click on the network share icon in the sidebar and select Eject or Disconnect.
