Full Self-Elevation allows researchers on devices designated as Research Devices by Kean IT to temporarily gain administrative permissions for a specified period.
To enable Full Self Elevation:
- Go to Agent Settings on your Research device.
- Click New Setting in the top left corner.
- In the sidebar, select Full Self Elevation from the Setting Type dropdown menu.
- Once selected, you’ll see a switch labeled 'Allow users to self-elevate' in the Parameters section. Turn this switch on.
After enabling, a dropdown menu titled 'Set elevation period' will appear. By default, the elevation period is set to 1 hour, but you may select from the following options:
- 15 minutes
- 30 minutes
- 45 minutes
- 1 hour
- 2 hours
- 3 hours
- 6 hours
The selected elevation period determines how long you will have administrative access on your device.
Once the agent is updated on your device, a new button will appear in the ThreatLocker tray. Right-click the ThreatLocker tray icon to see the 'Elevation Mode' button.
Clicking 'Elevation Mode' will open a pop-up window titled 'Elevation Justification'. Please enter a brief reason for needing administrative access, then select 'Apply'.
After you click 'Apply', Elevation Mode will be activated for the duration you selected.
When you’ve finished setting the type and parameters, scroll to the bottom of the 'Create Settings' panel and click 'Create' to save your new setting.
Finally, click 'Update Agents' at the top of the page to apply this setting to all applicable research devices.
Note: Use Full Self Elevation responsibly and only when necessary for research activities. Administrative access is temporary and helps maintain the security of Kean University’s systems and data.
