Introduction
This article explains how student and faculty can check course availability and enrollment status in Canvas.
Use this guide if you:
- Cannot see your course on the Canvas Dashboard
- Want to verify your enrollment status
- Need to confirm whether a course has been published
Before proceeding, ensure that:
- You can log into your Canvas account
- You are registered or assigned to a course
Solution Steps
- Access All Courses
- Log into Canvas
- Click Courses in the left-hand navigation menu
- Select All Courses
- Review Course Information
- On the All-Courses page, review the following columns:
- Star (Favorites):
- Indicates whether the course appears on your Dashboard
- A selected (filled) star means the course will display as a tile
- Course Title:
- Displays the name of the course
- If your course is not listed, contact the Registrar
- Enrolled As:
- Shows your role (e.g., student, instructor, graduate assistant)
- Published:
- Indicates whether the instructor has made the course available
- If unpublished, students will not be able to access the course
- Confirm Course Availability
- If the course is published but not accessible:
- The course start date may not have been reached yet
- Contact your instructor if you cannot access the course on the first day of class
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Course not on Dashboard
- Check the All-Courses page
- Select the star icon to add to your Dashboard
Course not listed at all
- Verify enrollment with the Registrar
Course published but inaccessible
- Check if the course start date has passed
- Contact your instructor for clarification
