Introduction
This article explains how to enable grade change notifications in Canvas, so you can stay informed when grades are posted or updated. This article is for faculty, adjunct and students.
Use this guide if you want to receive notifications when:
- Grades are posted for assignments
- Existing grades are updated
- Instructors leave submission comments
Before proceeding, ensure that:
- You have an active Canvas account
- You can successfully log into your institution’s Canvas site
- Your contact information (email or phone) is up to date
Instructions / Solution Steps
Step 1: Access Notification Preferences
- Log into Canvas at kean.instructure.com
- Click Account in the left navigation menu
- Select Notifications
Step 2: Configure Grading Notifications
- Scroll to the Grading section
- Locate the following notification types:
- Grading Policies Updated
- Assignment Grading
- Submission Comment
- For each notification type:
- Click the icon under your preferred contact method (email is recommended)
- Select Notify immediately
Step 3: Verify Contact Information
- Go to Account > Settings
- Review the Ways to Contact section
- Ensure your email address is correct
- Add additional contact methods if desired (SMS, push notifications)
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Not receiving notifications
- Confirm notification settings are set to Notify immediately
- Check your spam or junk email folder
Incorrect or missing contact method
- Verify your email address under Ways to Contact
- Add or update contact details as needed
Delayed notifications
- Ensure your selected notification method (email or push) is active and functioning
