Introduction
This article explains how to restore deleted content in Canvas, including pages, files, and announcements.
Use this guide if you need to:
- Recovering accidentally deleted content
- Restore pages, files, or announcements
- Locate recently removed course materials
Before proceeding, ensure that:
- You have instructor access to the course
- The content was recently deleted (older items may not be recoverable)
How to Restore Deleted Items
- Navigate to your Canvas course and click Home
- In your browser’s address bar, add /undelete to the end of your course URL
- Press Enter
Viewing Restored Deleted Content
The Restore Deleted Items page will appear
This page lists recently deleted items Each item includes:
- Content type (page, file, annoncement, etc.)
- Creation date
- Last updated date
- Locate the item you want to restore
- Click the Restore button next to the item
Confirm Restoration
- A confirmation pop-up will appear
- Click OK to proceed
- The restored item will return to its original location in the course
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Item not listed on Restore page
- The item may be too old or permanently deleted
- In this case, the content cannot be recovered
Restore option not available
- Ensure you have instructor-level permissions
Restored items not visible
- Check if the item needs to be published again
