Fixing Canvas Email Bounce-Backs

Introduction 

This article explains how to resolve email bounce-back issues in Canvas by updating your default email address. 

Use this guide if: 

    • Your Canvas email notifications are bouncing back  
    • You have been assigned a new Kean University email address (e.g., [email protected])  
    • You are not receiving Canvas communications  

Before proceeding, ensure that: 

    • You can log into your Canvas account  
    • You have access to your new Kean University email inbox  
    • You know your updated email address  

Instructions / Solution Steps 

Step 1: Access Account Settings

    1. Log into your Canvas account  
    2. Click Account (top left)  
    3. Select Settings  

Step 2: Add New Email Address 

    1. On the right side, click + Email Address  
    2. In the pop-up window:  
      • Ensure Email is selected  
      • Enter your new default email address ([email protected])  
    3. Click Register Email  

Step 3: Confirm Email Address

    1. Check your Kean email inbox  
    2. Open the confirmation message from Canvas  
    3. Follow the instructions to verify your new email address  
       

Step 4: Set as Default Email 

    1. Return to Account > Settings in Canvas  
    2. Locate your new email address  
    3. Click the star icon next to it to set it as your default  

Common Issues & Troubleshooting 

Did not receive confirmation email  

  • Check your spam/junk folder  
  • Ensure the email address was entered correctly  

Emails still bouncing back  

  • Confirm the new email is set as the default (star selected)  
  • Remove or disable outdated email addresses if necessary  

Receiving duplicate emails  

  • Verify notification settings are enabled on only one email address
