Introduction
This article explains how to resolve email bounce-back issues in Canvas by updating your default email address.
Use this guide if:
- Your Canvas email notifications are bouncing back
- You have been assigned a new Kean University email address (e.g., [email protected])
- You are not receiving Canvas communications
Before proceeding, ensure that:
- You can log into your Canvas account
- You have access to your new Kean University email inbox
- You know your updated email address
Instructions / Solution Steps
Step 1: Access Account Settings
- Log into your Canvas account
- Click Account (top left)
- Select Settings
Step 2: Add New Email Address
- On the right side, click + Email Address
- In the pop-up window:
- Ensure Email is selected
- Enter your new default email address ([email protected])
- Click Register Email
Step 3: Confirm Email Address
- Check your Kean email inbox
- Open the confirmation message from Canvas
- Follow the instructions to verify your new email address
Step 4: Set as Default Email
- Return to Account > Settings in Canvas
- Locate your new email address
- Click the star icon next to it to set it as your default
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Did not receive confirmation email
- Check your spam/junk folder
- Ensure the email address was entered correctly
Emails still bouncing back
- Confirm the new email is set as the default (star selected)
- Remove or disable outdated email addresses if necessary
Receiving duplicate emails
- Verify notification settings are enabled on only one email address
